TMmndlb.jpg (29527 bytes)TMms.jpg (38188 bytes)TMmnds.jpg (164958 bytes)THIN MAN VIETNAMESE MANDOLINS,
ALL SOLID WOOD CONSTRUCTION, ROUND HOLE W/ SOUND CHAMBERED SIDES  $495, ($595 WITH MONTELEONE TAILPIECE).
(see mandola below in mandola section, $549)
. SPRUCE TOP, SOME WITH FLAME MAPLE B&S, AND SOME WITH ROSEWOOD B&S.

THESE MANDOLINS ARE NOT ONLY UNUSUAL LOOKING (WITH THE ADDITIONAL SOUND HOLES IN THE SIDES), BUT UNUSUALLY FINE SOUNDING! »MORE PICS CLICK HERE!
THEY HAVE  CHAMBERED SIDES (BEHIND THE SIDE SOUND HOLES) WHICH GIVE THEM A REMARKABLE VOLUME AND PRESENCE! FOR A FLAT TOP ROUND HOLE MANDOLIN. I WOULD SAY THE SOUND IS LIKE A FINE F MODEL EXCEPT THAT IT ISN'T SO CHUNKY SOUNDING ON THE CHOPS,  IT'S A LITTLE BRIGHTER, WITHOUT THAT THROATY SOUND.  i FIND IT ALSO WORKS JUST AS WELL FOR BLUEGRASS. THE BRIDGE IS FINELY CUT AND & UNUSUAL  (REMINDS ME OF MY FIGLI & REALE ORNATE ITALIAN MANDOLIN).
BRIDGE OPTIONS ARE: ALL WOOD BRIDGE; ALL BONE;  WOOD WITH A METAL SADDLE

TO make it playable for all those with average and large fingers (about 90% of the population) , I'VE WIDENED THE STRING SPACING AT THE NUT.
you can now hear all 8 (instead of 7) strings when you play ANY chord! (it was only playable by little people previously, due to the close finger spacing, a problem unfortunately found on the vast majority of string instruments today!)
INLAY OPTIONS:
THE INLAY IS VERY REMARKABLE, (SEE MORE PICS LINK above!)
IF YOU LOOK CLOSE, YOU MIGHT SEE BILL MONROE ON THAT WATER BUFFALO
!

ROVER RM-75 ARTIST SERIES, ALL SOLID, CARVED WOODS, ($695 list)$459 with factory setup (light strings), $489 with our famous setup and choice of medium or light strings! Extras: vintage style case (as pictured) $59; 3 more frets removed and scooped $50 (allows you to play in the sweet spot without hitting the frets, they had the right idea, as the picture shows, but didn't go far enough
. I really recommend the scoop, it's deeper, and so allows you to play harder without hitting the frets, and to pick in the sweet spot, and since mandolins have so much treble, that's important!
THIS HAS GOT TO BE THE BUY OF THE DECADE FOR AN F5!! THIS LIMITED RUN WAS MADE FROM MICHIGAN MAPLE FOR THE B&S, THAT'S A NORTHEASTERN MAPLE, AND THAT'S WHY THEY SOUND SO WARM!
THE WOOD WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FLAME MAPLE AND WAS TO GO ON THE MORE EXPENSIVE ARTIST SERIES F5 MODELS, BUT IT DIDN'T HAVE THE FLAME THEY WANTED. SO, THEY DECIDED TO USE IT ON A LIMITED RUN NEW MODEL, AND CALL IT THE ROVER RM75.  I WAS BLOWN AWAY BY THE TONE OF THE FIRST ONE I HEARD. THIS MODEL WAS BASED ON THE 1923 LLOYD LOAR, WHICH MEANS IT'S NOT YOUR TYPICAL MANDOLIN, THE WOODS ARE FINELY GRADUATED (YOU CAN EASILY SEE IT IN THE SCROLL WORK). YOU WON'T FIND THIS QUALITY IN ANY OTHER F5 UNDER $1000, IN FACT  »more PICS CLICK HERE!

KM-250S, $299,  IMPROVED MODEL FROM CHINA!
the PRICE HAS GONE DOWN AND THE QUALITY HAS GONE UP!
KM250b.jpg (43482 bytes)
STILL THE SAME MATERIALS, BUT MORE FLAME IN THE MAPLE AND A PRETTIER FINISH THAT SHOWS IT OFF! at the moment this one is the best buy for an all solid mandolin. (but watch out for the new rover all solid model coming soon!)

KM-174 all solid oval hole, burgundy finish $249

"Kentucky Artist Collection "Oval Hole" A-Model Mandolins combine the best features of traditional 1920's instruments to provide unique modern instruments with the flexibility to handle today's demanding performance requirements. Each KM-160, in addition to the oval sound hole, has a bound rosewood fingerboard on a maple neck that joins the body at the 10th fret. All topped off with the unmistakable and traditional "snake-head" peghead design with rosewood overlay and pearl Kentucky script logo. Available in 3 great new colors."

CONSIDERING THE PRICE, I'M REALLY IMPRESSED, IT HAS A PLEASANT SOUND WITH DECENT VOLUME, EVEN WITH THE LIGHT STRINGS THAT COME ON IT! I DIDN'T HAVE TO DO TO MUCH TO IT TO GET IT PLAYABLE, JUST THE USUAL LOWERING AT THE NUT AND A LITTLE WIDENING THERE TOO. THE NECK IS IMPRESSIVE TOO, AN EXCELLENT FRET JOB!

OCTAVE MANDOLIN $225!»PICS HERE SOLD!
A very nice mandolin for cheap! Laminated construction, spruce top, rosewood back & sides, quality die cast tuners. About an inch shorter scale than the Johnson above (or 19"), which makes it much easier to play mandolin tunes on it, compared to the longer octave Romanian above. I've added side dots and four more string posts, and removed the metal saddle from the bridge to give it a warmer tone! (I never did like those metal, or ceramic Gibson, saddles on guitars or mandolins).
