FENDER GC42S $399 ($665 MSRP)
Mint, solid top, shaved braces by me! »CLICK
HERE FOR PIC
I like the guitar in spite of it's being a fender acoustic! of
course it sounds even better after I shaved the braces! (I thought it was pretty
good sounding of the assembly line, and so, worthy of improving by lightening
the braces. PS, I also widened the string spacing at the
nut to use the fingerboard! (Most factory nut spacings are crapola. I guess
they're made for tiny Asian fingers since that's where they're made!)
Here's
what Fender says:
The GC-42S is perfect for players wanting a guitar with a smaller body, or who
simply want to add a different tonal "color" to their palette. The
GC-42S incorporates a slightly smaller Grand Concert-style body, Fender design
neck profile, abalone position markers, tortoise shell-style binding, AA Grade
solid Spruce top, and a solid Mahogany back.
GIBSON SJ Dlx. 1974
$850, 85%
Great playing and sounding!
Has evidently had a neck reset, some new finish oversprayed in that area but
overall look is good.
GIBSON CF-100, 1954 Gibson
CF-100 ( 1950-1958 ) $4,200
Excellent condition, no repaired cracks except for a small one at
the top right corner of headstock, see left pic.
The Gibson cf-100 guitars are more of a rare find and are becoming more
sought after as the years go by, they were introduced in 1950 and discontinued
in 1958. They had a flat top pointed cutaway which was unheard of in the 50s ,
mahogany back and sides, bound body, 20 frets , bound rosewood fingerboards with
trapezoid inlays, nickel tuners and were made in sunburst colors .
GUILD Aragon F30
1966, $950, GC or 75%
Some wear, especially on lower side and back of neck.
STELLA Parlor (3/4) CIRCA 1950,
$259
A good sounding parlor style guitar, all solid
birch! V style neck and good action. We've redone the bridge with a wood
saddle for extra warmth and better intonation. Also shaved the braces
for extra warmth.

Looks good overall, has a
few repaired cracks, and plays
good, nice 000 size, 15 3/8" wide. I shaved the
braces, so now it has more warmth along with the brightness it had.
HARMONY
Grand Concert size $390, all solid mahogany, rings nice and bright with lots
of warmth for an all mahogany guitar!

Plays really good and the neck is in great shape wear wise. Has the typical
large neck. Perfect intonation. Strung light gauge.

Nice bright and warm sound! The neck has been
thinned a little as they were often a bit too thick. It plays very comfortably
now. Normal wear, nothing ugly and the pictures are
representative.
Elias Howe parlor guitar, $499, Oak B&S, spruce top
I replaced the bridge with an original style one and it places just fine. It
has one crack, visible on top photo, which has been repaired it stable and not a
problem. The back seam has been re-glued, but it wasn't cracked, just loose,
it's in fine playable condition, and sounds extra fine, very
warm!
.
HOHNER-GRUHN medium jumbo, Mahogany
model $399
Actually NEW. See it on the New Guitar Page
Wonderful thin neck and very full tone
and balance, not boomy or overly bassy. Designed by George Gruhn, Hohner
dropped the line, it was probably too pricey for their line.
WASHBURN 1897 Style "New
Model" Parlor Guitar $895

ebony fingerboard.

Great
sounding, they don't get any warmer or fuller for this size, and
in good condition for it's age (about 100 years!) Plays and sounds killer
(my least favorite adjective. I much prefer "fucking great"). I've re-intonated the saddle by
putting a wider one in, so that i now plays in tune. (sermon follows)
Most of these older Washburns and Martins (older as for very recently for
Martins) don't play exactly in tune because they didn't put a wide enough saddle
in them to compensate properly for the B string. As a result the B and often the
6th E, play sharp! There is room now to lower the bridge if it ever becomes
necessary.
WASHBURN New Model, Style 102,
$875, Brazilian rosewood B&S, spruce top, ebony fingerboard. Same
modifications to the bridge make it play in tune, also, the bridge is probably
not original, but it works good. It sounds like the above 1897 Style, perhaps
slightly brighter, but still nice and warm, with lots of projection, also, the
neck is slimmer. Very good condition for its' age, I'd guess it's a little
newer, perhaps a teenager! (circa 1913-1919)
